Description
I collect a couple of thousand shagbark hickory nuts every year. My favorite place to collect is a patch of woods right out in front of Burlington high school because there are several hundred mature trees within 50 feet of a paved trail that goes through the woods. I store the nuts in a large plastic tub. In the first couple of weeks of storage dozens to hundreds (highy variable from year to year) of these larvae chew their way out of the nuts.
