The purpose of this application, under Articles 65.2 and 78.1 of the Code, is to conserve the current usage of the weevil generic name Plinthus Germar, 1817 and the family-group name PLINTHINI Lacordaire, 1863. These are threatened due to a misidentification and emended spelling of Curculio meyerlaei Fabricius, 1801 (ENTIMI- NAE) by Panzer (1803) and subsequent emendation of the spelling of the Fabrician species as Curculio megerlei. It is proposed that Curculio megerlei Panzer, 1803 be ruled to be an available name and designated as the type species of Plinthus Germar, 1817.
